John Crombez is the Belgian State Secretary for the Control of Social and Tax Fraud. He belongs to the Flemish Socialist Party Alternative (sp.a). (Political parties in Belgium are generally separated by language, so Flanders and Wallonia generally would have separate political parties).
The sp.a party is one of two left of centre parties in Flanders, the other being the Groen (Green) party. It receives 15-20% of the vote in Flanders.
I really dislike the way this author describes the switch from a unilateral to a bilateral approach. No explanation of why that is necessary; due to breaking the domestic/privacy laws of the other countries. How is it that he is a member of a “left-of-centre party?”
