Irony noted, but nonetheless:
‘Make it clear in the banner and about that it’s a site for Canadians only, bar posts from foreign IP addresses, and ban posts about other countries, such as the”FATCA and EU” categories.’
Canada has a diaspora too. Banning postings from duals abroad (as I used to be) or from Canadians located in the US would be counterproductive. Here’s the real solution:
Tatoo a US star onto the IP address of every US person regardless of whether they’re in Canada, the US, or elsewhere. Only allow postings from tatooed IP addresses.
Perhaps in a hostile environment as expats are in facing FATCA and all the threats, hostilities are fuelled? It feels that way right now. What happened to “we”? And I mean ALL expats who Nina Olsen so aptly said were being tortured.
Where`s the love?
I think, as I’ve said, that it would be perfectly reasonable for this site to focus on the FATCA impact in Canada. Canadians are obviously in a rather different situation, due both to numbers affected, and proximity, and laws.
And anyway, as far as I can see, this FATCA thing is not really a solidarity situation. “US Persons everywhere” (let alone “US Persons who don’t want to be US Persons”) is certainly not a category I myself identify with or wish to be a part of, on the contrary I’ve gone to a lot of trouble and spent what for me is a lot of money to get rid of it. (And I’m not angry with the UK Government for participating in negotiating the IGA, thus avoiding damage to the banks and the UK economy. I’m devoted to my country, and I don’t see things from the perspective of an immigrant. )
I agree with Nononymous – pooling knowledge and experience to help people cope with FATCA/CBT is useful. IMO, valorizing “US Persons” or “unwilling US Persons” as an identity politics thing, is not useful and in fact makes no sense at all. The very idea that US citizens who don’t want to be US citizens, should hope to influence the American elections by choosing to vote for this candidate or that candidate, neither of which is interested in the problems of people who don’t want to be US citizens, is simply not realistic. FATCA’s not going to go away as a result of the US election – nor as a result of court action. Nobody can even come up with an explanation of how a win in the Charter trial would help those Canadians who are subject to FATCA reporting. I’d say that’s a rather worrying situation.
It seems to me that the comments reveal (at a minimum) “two schools of thought”.
School 1: My only interest is, in practical terms, how does FATCA, CBT, FBAR, etc. affect me personally. What can I do to make my personal situation better?
School 2: My interest is in the broader problems of FATCA, CBT, FBAR and what they represent for the world and for people in general.
And of course there is some overlap.
Then there is the discussion of the post itself. The question is: why is this post relevant to the core mission of Isaac Brock Society, etc.?
FATCA is, an expression of politics in the USA. I can see why some commenters object to the post based on the idea that the post is somehow an expression of “Partisan Politics” (which I don’t think it is). I don’t see why U.S. politics is NOT relevant to the issues affecting Americans abroad. The simple fact is that the woes afflicting Americans abroad are all the direct result of U.S. politics.
The fact is that U.S. politics affects the situation of every person with an interest in this situation. The video posted is absolutely not a “Pro Trump” video. It focuses only on the conduct of a nominee for President of the United States. It’s as though any time the word “Clinton” or the word “Trump” is mentioned that it becomes a “political conversation”. I simply do not see that.
However, I think that we can all agree that what happens in the USA can (and often does) cause harm to other nations. Therefore, what happens in the United States is a reasonable topic of discussion. Because of this, I offer the following very interesting video which includes a discussion of the U.S. dollar as the world’s dominant reserve currency. Clearly the imposition of FATCA was possible ONLY because the USD has this status. Perhaps this video can be seen as a less “political expression” of some of the concerns expressed.
The Clintons violated US federal law regarding emails because they were conducting private business via their foundation: Bill accepted large amounts of cash from foreign governments who then expected favours from Madame Secretary of State. The private email server meant to cover up their influence peddling but has now backfired because hackers are proving to the world that Hillary had Mens Rea all along.
Whatever moral authority that the United States may have wielded has been completely lost as the two most corrupt people in the world make their way back to the White House.
So I wanted everyone to see the CNN video because it is not Breibart or Fox or National Enquirer. It is mainstream media. Hillary Clinton is clearly a dangerous person. But I have little doubt that she will become the next president, unless people become outraged. But here at Brock, people are more outraged with me than with this criminal running for president, who will become the next Persecutor in Chief of so-called US citizens abroad. We need to discard illusions about the Clintons.
We have heard countless stories of Washington’s abuse of expats. The government has not responded. It is clearly a form of criminal sociopathy–the inability to have empathy for innocent people who are harmed. They treat us as guilty in advance, expecting to see the evidence of our crime–our “offshore” account information. They call us tax cheats, traitors, EX-patriots. But they are the criminals. Petros Principle 12: The criminals are in DC.
Also, every pundit that claimed that Hillary did not have mens rea for using a private email server are shown to be extremely naive. She has mens rea. She was covering up the crime of influence peddling.
private server not subject to Freedom of Information requests.
Mens rea? Deleting emails from private server to hide the ties between the State Department and the Clinton Foundation. That seems like mens rea to me. The FBI must now charge Hillary with a federal crime. They refused to do so, because she didn’t have “intent”. But clearly the intent to hide criminal actions has now been proven.
“Hillary Clinton put the State Department up for sale, with top aides pulling strings and doing favors for fat-cat donors to the Clinton Foundation — including a shady billionaire, according to smoking-gun emails released Tuesday.”
A Clinton strategist calls for the assassination of Assange.
““I mean, a dead man can’t leak stuff,” Beckel chillingly noted of Assange. “The guy’s a traitor, a treasonist, and … and he has broken every law in the United States. The guy ought to be — and I’m not for the death penalty — so, if I’m not for the death penalty, there’s only one way to do it, illegally shoot the son of a bitch.””
#FATCA affects everyone around the world … whether or not you are a US Citizen, Green Card Holder or otherwise tainted. The very cost of implementing FATCA compliance mechanism in banks, insurance companies, Government Departments and so on everywhere is a cost imposed on MY life and I am NOT a US Person. I have also been loud in the matter of FATCA being a DANGEROUS MECHANISM BECAUSE IT EXPOSES PEOPLE (WITH US ATTACHMENTS) WORLDWIDE TO VIOLENT HATERS LIKE ISIS as well as instituting a mechanism for even more dictatorial control over non US person’s lives in matters like asset seizures, foreign exchange controls and so on FATCA empowers Dictators and Tyrants. I have contributed in comments to this site from time to time and extensively in comments on media sites around the world. I have made a couple donations to this litigation effort. I (and probably others like me) take offense at some comments by Iota. FATCA is NOT merely a US Tax issue … that is the smoke screen as choking as that is.
“I (and probably others like me) take offense at some comments by Iota.”
If you want to specify which comments of mine you’ve taken offence to, I’ll be happy to respond.
I am not going to get into any debate whatsoever. I have no desire to devalue this web site which I consider a vital part of so many people’s lives around the globe and the forum where resistance to Unjust law like FATCA, CBT, FBAR etc can gather. All I ask is that you consider what I have said and consider what you have said.
FYI I repeat that I am NOT a US Person, am not liable to US Taxation (so far as I know) and have no vote in the US electoral machinery. Yet I and all people world wide including slum dwellers in India and Brazil are affected by the outcome of US Elections and by Unjust Laws promulgated from Washington with worldwide costs (monetary and otherwise). Consider these things and then vote wisely if you have a vote and intend to cast it.

I can’t very well consider what I’ve said if I don’t know what it is you object to. I’m not a US citizen, I don’t have a US vote, I’m affected by FATCA and by the result of the US election and by US legislative and other actions just like you and everybody else in the world. What is it you want me to consider?
Can we get back to Hillary Clinton and whether she committed Federal Crimes?
Hey, it’s your forum, but I would have thought the various comments that have been made about IBS in this thread could serve as useful discussion points – though maybe in a different thread.
How can someone be treasonous to the USA if he is not even a US citizen? Well the answer is that the USA Homelander Democrat Strategists for Hillary Clinton appear to think that the laws of USA are valid everywhere and that non-citizens should be treated like citizens, because they have the most powerful army in the world, with drones and assassination capabilities.
@iota, well, the forum is open to anyone, American, Canadian and all others–to discuss all issues related to the USA international tax invasion–and we do not censor comments very often. We’ll let the whole world know if we change our minds.
So you guys can go back and forth about something unrelated to the thread all you like. There were something like 200 comments in one of Petros Points posts, that were unrelated to the original post. So you may and can do it.
The arguments against this post have thus far been:
(1) It is based on crazy right wing sources.
(2) It has no part at Isaac Brock.
(3) It is political.
Well, I’ve cited some mainstream media sources too (even CNN!). As for not fitting the purpose of Brock I disagree. The purpose of Brock was to come up with a place where people could disagree and not have their posts censored. As for the post being political–I suppose then if Watergate was taking place today, we wouldn’t be able to discuss that here either.
The main argument is that Hillary broke the Federal Laws with the intent to hide unethical/illegal activity of influence peddling. Hence, the FBI argument that she did not have intent is rebutted.
@John Canuck
“This site has been highjacked. Now it’s a National Enquirer pounding board for US politics. Not good.”
The unfortunate reality is that US politics cannot be separated from FATCA or CBT. This is evident by the opposing positions of the two major American parties towards FATCA, FBAR and CBT as described in each party’s election platform.
In case you didn’t see it, each party’s platform is described here:
The idea that Brock should avail itself to only specific types of US persons and their opinions is absurd. The US government certainly doesn’t make any distinctions between groups of US persons abroad, why should we? For a group of people who are clearly within the US government’s gun sights, some of us are pretty thin skinned. What may not be your cup of tea may be another’s – show tolerance. We’re all in this boat together – creating divisions on our own perceptions of how others view themselves isn’t helpful, in fact it’s discrimination and bigotry.

“I think, as I’ve said, that it would be perfectly reasonable for this site to focus on the FATCA impact in Canada. Canadians are obviously in a rather different situation, due both to numbers affected, and proximity, and laws.”
The roll out of FATCA is not impacting Americans abroad / US tainted persons at the same pace. Continental Europe has probably suffered the most due to its close proximity to Switzerland which has been on the front lines of US tax imperialism since the very beginning.
With regards to making Isaac Brock Society a Canadian only site. I think that would be just shooting ourselves in the foot. The whole reason Americans abroad / US tainted persons have been getting screwed by the Uncle Sam is because we are geographically divided and thus far unable to organize or even coordinate much of a meaningful push back.
In may opinion non-Canadians should be encouraged to participate on this site. They have the same interests as Canadian Americans / US tainted Canadians which is to bring the misery of US FATCA, FBAR and CBT imperialism to an end.
I’m good with this site being a place that is more USA person oriented than Canadian oriented. Just have a problem with the name Isaac Brock Society as I think it causes confusion. For the longest time I thought I was at a different sort of place. But It is all clear now and I’m fine with it.
This site has become too US-centric, something I’ve been trying to avoid. If I want US prediential candidate debates, I can tune into CTV which seems to revel in 24 hr coverage of a foreign country. Since I already have my CLN, the Charter challenge has been funded, and the UN human rights complaint has been ignored, I’m out.
For Petros, I’m no lefty, I believe that witch is rotten to the core, but that’s THEIR problem. Neither candidate will dispose of FATCA or CBT because the greedy, immoral country will not allow it.
For EmBee, during the Canadian election I more than once posted that Trudeau would do nothing about FATCA, just like “evil” Harper.
For those of you that believe ANY political party in Canada or the US will change the situation, I have some swampland to sell you. You are nothing but a chunk of change in the pocket of someone with power and influence.
Best of luck to all of you fighting your way out. To the USA, bite my ass.
