Keep politics out of Brock.
@ Jim Jatras
Funny you should pop into Brock while I’m watching you on RT. I agree with your comment but remember the “Dean Scream”? Too darn easy for the MSM to pick up a bad Trump moment, play it over and over and then the easily misled American voters elect the selected one. I hope for FATCA’s sake I’m wrong but I’m a cynical old Canadian. Good interview, BTW. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=259&v=-ASgpbREhIk
Bill Clinton encouraged Trump to get more involved with politics but one has to wonder what’s up with that? With the Clintons there are always hidden motives and money involved with every feigned friendship.
I guess you guys are going to have to decide whether this website is for addressing our common concerns, namely CBT and FATCA, or is it a place for the lunatic right to mouth off. You do the cause a serious disservice.
Sayonara.
@EmBee
Thanks. But what do you mean “pop into Brock”?
Yes, sure he gives ammunition on occasion, but the baby and Purple Heart episodes were big nothings, would not even get reported if from someone else. I agree he should minimize handing out opportunities, but even if he did the endless Two Minute Hate would continue https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4zYlOU7Fpk
@ Star and NorthernShrike
Why do you want the American election to be a no-go zone at Brock? The future leader there will become a prime FATCA factor to all of us. Funny nobody seemed to object to all those anti-Harper comments prior to our Canadian election. Oh well … if mum must be the word then I can do silence as well as anyone.
@ Jim Jatras
I’m supposed to be mum but to answer your question. I didn’t mean anything except it was a coincidence that I was watching your video and reading Brock when you posted your comment. The American election appears to be a touchy topic here … unlike our last Canadian election which was not.
@Embee, if memory serves me correct, there was some kerfuffle here a while back regarding at least one Canadian election related post where Petros called Trudeau a sociopath.
I suspect that for some, the dismay currently is with topics that are difficult to connect with US person issues regarding FATCA and CBT. For some others who read here, particularly those who identify solely as Canadian, I suspect many once thought this was predominantly a site focussing on the Canadian effort to fight off the latest US attack (due to it being called the Isaac Brock Society), yet more and more are realizing it is predominated by US persons abroad with an axe to grind.
@NorthernShrike, So you are saying that the selective application of the US federal law code doesn’t bother you? Hillary doesn’t have to follow Federal law even though the FBI clearly admits that she broke several laws? But nevertheless so-called US citizens are expected to follow every tax law that Congress passes?
This post is so clearly about CBT and FATCA and the rest that I hardly feel it is worth my time to defend the point.
Not saying US persons abroad should not be angry with the country they use to call home. Just that as usual the relatively, quiet Canadian voice gets drowned out by US issues. There is no one place or group which represents just us. Isaac Brock would get this.
Easily changed. Make it clear in the banner and about that it’s a site for Canadians only, bar posts from foreign IP addresses, and ban posts about other countries, such as the”FATCA and EU” categories.
You can’t expect people to understand that they’re not welcome in a forum unless the terms are clearly stated.
@Iota, you missed my point. Clearly this is a site for US persons abroad primarily and Canadians are welcome also.
@iota, decisions about who this website is for were made in Dec. 2011. We are here to discuss CBT, FATCA, FBAR, US persons abroad issues, citizenship, etc. Anything related to the United States international tax invasion.
Very few comments have ever been censored. We even allow astroturfers to comment–evidently, since there is no way to screen them out–nor do we censor their comments if we suspect them of astroturfing.
iota, we cannot help it if we get our dander up sometimes. it’s not fun living next door to the great USA.
Don’t get me wrong. I think it would be perfectly reasonable to have a Canadian-only forum. But it would need to be made clear.
I wonder – are there fewer Canadian posters than there used to be?
If so – maybe it is indeed partly due to an overabundance of non-Canadians, so that some Canadians feel outnumbered and drift away.
But it could also be partly due to the fact that people just naturally tend to decide how they’re going to deal with FATCA, do what they need to do, and at that point, some move on. So the number posting gets reduced, and if a lot of those posting were Canadians, it means a lot of those who move on may be Canadians. Maybe.
@iota, I do not feel outnumbered at all. I would have thought that the non-Canadians might feel that.
Seriously, this is turning into breitbart.ca or foxnews.ca – some very nutty stuff.
Give up on the politics. Give up on changing US CBT and FATCA. Focus on coping strategies, both by-the-book (renunciation and exit returns etc.) and pragmatic (lie to your bank and stay off the radar).
For the record, I am not a member of the “lunatic right.” I voted NDP in the last election. I am among the many people furious at how Bernie Sanders (about as left a candidate as you could ask for) was treated by the DNC, and they should be ashamed. Debbie Wasserman Schultz should be out of a job; instead, Hillary hired her! What a slap to the face of Bernie Sanders supporters.
You can skip this thread if you don’t want to hear about “politics”, but the current president gave us FATCA, and until it is overturned I think it is important to know what is going on. The primary vote for the Democrat candidacy was fraudulent and Bernie Sanders was robbed. Long-time Democrats who happened to be ID’ed as Bernie Sanders voters showed up in states like California to vote in the primary and told their addresses were missing. Or they were given provisional ballots to be discounted. The fraud is so blatant that the Institute for American Democracy and Election Integrity are pursuing a lawsuit, only to clear the record. Check it out at trustvote [dot] org.
Meanwhile, wikileaks revealed the BLATANT anti-Sanders documents exchanged by the very Democrats who are supposed to oversee the process and make sure it is fair. So what happens? Hillary’s camp makes up lies about Assange to vilify HIM. While they are concocting LIES, Assange verifies that the documents they exposed are 100% TRUE. Wikileaks provides a valuable service by exposing documents in MANY countries and over MANY issues, Republican and Democrat.
“Easily changed. Make it clear in the banner and about that it’s a site for Canadians only, bar posts from foreign IP addresses, and ban posts about other countries, such as the”FATCA and EU” categories.”
It seems like you are interested to kick out non-Canadians or perhaps split apart dissident Americans expats. Is that your wish? Please clarify because some here find your “Canadians only” comments somewhat disturbing, particularly since there have been a significant amount of non-Canadian donors to the Anti-FATCA lawsuit in Canada.
iota was being sarcastic. Problem with IBS is that when the righteousness and martyrdom we all feel bubble over, we lose our sense of humour, or at least irony.
For the record, I do think Petros is going for a bit of a stretch beyond our issues with his original post.
@all,
Eventually, anyone defending Hillary is going to be looking a little sheepish as the truth comes out.
I wonder if she will make it to the general election. Perhaps, she will use failing health to drop out.
I think Petros just has a larger perspective than most and therefore sees our issues within the context of the larger picture.
I think we are only just starting to see the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the Clinton Foundation. I remember when Bill first introduced the Clinton Global Initiative. It smelled bad to me even back then.
Walt, I hope you are not confusing having a cause or fight with donating to or supporting one. it is wonderful that so many non-Canadians donated to the FATCA IGA lawsuit. It does not follow however that those Canadians who directly stand to benefit from a Canadian lawsuit should consider CBT their fight.
Also with regards to your suggestion that Petros is seeing things from a bigger picture than the rest of us, I agree you and he both see it that way.
This site has been highjacked. Now it’s a National Enquirer pounding board for US politics. Not good.
“I’ve been aware for quite some time that the “Good Old American Justice System” applies to little people but not the big, wealthy folk.”
Oh yeah? If you were a victim of big, wealthy folk, you’d discover that the American (and Canadian and Japanese etc.) justice systems don’t apply to little people. We just get shafted.
Keep politics out of Brock.

@embee, the death of Seth is creepy and when I checked it out, I found out this, which point to just what you said:

and that someone has gone on national T.V. to call for Assange’s assassination!
