To those who wish to be rescued (by the US Marine or any other US military) …
Subject: Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Updated Travel Warning for Yemen
TRAVEL WARNING – YEMEN
1. The U.S. Department of State warns U.S. citizens of the high security threat level in Yemen due to terrorist activities and civil unrest. On February 11, 2015 due to the deteriorating security situation in Sanaa, the Department of State suspended embassy operations and U.S. Embassy Sanaa American staff have been relocated out of the country. All consular services, routine and/or emergency, have been suspended until further notice. The Department urges U.S. citizens to defer travel to Yemen and those U.S. citizens currently living in Yemen to depart when you are able to safely do so. This supersedes the Travel Warning for Yemen issued on February 11, 2015.
2. The level of instability and ongoing threats in Yemen remain severe. There are no plans for a U.S. government-coordinated evacuation of U.S. citizens at this time. We encourage all U.S. citizens to shelter in a secure location until they are able to depart safely. U.S. citizens wishing to depart should do so via commercial transportation options when they become available. Keep vital records and travel documents close at hand; U.S. citizens should be prepared to depart at a moment’s notice. The airports are currently closed, but may open unexpectedly; other unforseen opportunities to depart may also suddenly arise.
3. Additionally, some foreign governments may arrange transportation for their nationals and may be willing to offer assistance to others. There is no guarantee that foreign governments will assist U.S. citizens in leaving Yemen. U.S. citizens who choose to seek foreign government assistance in leaving Yemen should only do so if they can safely make their way to the point of embarkation and have received confirmation that there is space available. Even if assured there is space aboard transportation, U.S. citizens should be aware that there is no guarantee that they will be permitted to board the transport, or may have to wait an indefinite period until they can do so. There is also no guarantee of where travelers will go.For U.S. citizen inquiries, you may send an email to YEMENEMERGENCYUSC@state.gov.
4. Terrorist organizations, including Al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), continue to be active throughout Yemen. The U.S. government remains extremely concerned about possible attacks on U.S. citizens (whether visiting or residing in Yemen), and U.S. facilities, businesses, and perceived U.S. and Western interests. In addition, piracy in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, and Indian Ocean is a security threat to maritime activities in the region. See our International Maritime Piracy Fact Sheet.
5. U.S. citizens remaining in Yemen despite this Travel Warning should limit nonessential travel within the country, make their own contingency emergency plans, enroll their presence in Yemen through the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), and provide their current contact information and next-of-kin or emergency contact information. You may inform the Department of State of U.S. citizens located in Yemen by visiting https://tfa.state.gov/ccd, selecting “2015 Yemen Unrest,” and providing as much information as possible. You can also contact us at 1-888-407-4747 (from the U.S. & Canada), +1-202-501-4444 (from overseas), and YemenEmergencyUSC@state.gov if you have additional questions or concerns.
6. For the latest security information, U.S. citizens living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs website where the current Worldwide Caution, Travel Alerts and Travel Warnings, and Country Specific Information for Yemen can be found. Up-to-date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the United States and Canada or, for callers in other countries, by calling a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).
Ah, the US military industrial complex — reminds me of different responses to Ebola epidemic: Cuba sends doctors; US sends troops and trainers.
Well that does it. If they won’t even evacuate me out of Yemen I’m not paying any more US taxes! It is nice they took the trouble to suggest hitchhiking, though. I never would have thought of that.
To say a US passport offers an individual some form of ‘insurance’ is naïve. Even if the US comes to the rescue, they often charge US citizens for the flight out of the troubled region.
All they offer you is the option to pay for a flight out of your troubles in the best case scenario.
Just like the USA to write a multi-page document to explain how they will NOT help you and then provide a website where you MIGHT be able to let them know how great all that non-help thingy is working out for you.
Well they did provide an e-mail address.
@EmBee
At least US citizens are being told to work it out… GC & Visa are sh*t out of luck but they will rob us blind for being *US persons*… what are the chances that Canada will come to the rescue… quick… ask the PM… he is in the closet… hiding… waiting on his mobile for the US to tell him what to do….
Am I alone on this one? I kind of remember that when things “blew up” in Beirut, Lebanon (in this case July 2006) Canada provided evacuation for about 13k citizens (mostly citizens of convenience) including offering a ride to many other foreigners INCLUDING US CITIZENS….all at no charge (although there’s been discussions about continuing this policy since).
And we’re supposed to pay the arrogant USA for what again???
Not really related, but my brother in law told me that US passport holders don’t need a visa to travel to India, whereas Canadians do. I said I’d never use my US passport anywhere other than to travel to the US. From what I understand, you are only given the consular protections of the country you travelled with. Is this true?
And…. this is hilarious…unless you’re a tax enslaved “US Person.” No sooner did I finish writing the last comment above, then I read the arlicle (linked below) about how Russia has just helped some Canadians escape from Yemen. Screw off USA!

@Bubblebustin
The passport u travel in on is the one that will offer u protection… Friend in HK has a residence card there… that allows him to travel to China freely… just swipe the card & walk through… Instead he pays for a yearly China visa & travels on his Canadian passport only… if something happens in China… Canada is suppose to take care of u…
I’m waiting for Obama and Elizabeth Warren to get involved in this and amend the notice to read:
Only those US citizens and permanent residents who can prove five years of tax compliance will be evacuated from Yemen. For the rest of you, please wait for the next Chinese ship.
And meanwhile India’s been sending ships & planes to get out not only its own citizens, but Sri Lankans & Bangladeshis too.

Unpossible! How can they even afford to do that without citizenship-based taxation?
@Eric:
Don’t you get it? India and China (which evacuated many nationalities from Yemen) can afford to provide this service, using the excess funds in their economy which rightfully should have been going to the USA in the form of unpaid dodged taxes. Shame on India and China!
Thanks for sharing this. The myth that the U.S. offers special help to its citizens abroad seems to by dying very hard indeed, and it can’t be stressed too much or too often that many of us who have claims to any other citizenship would never even think of relying on the U.S. if we were in trouble. My father was born American, my mother was born British, and I was born Canadian. Many years ago, when I was a teenager, I sought and received help while abroad from a British consulate. It didn’t occur to me to go to an American consulate, because my understanding was that since I was travelling on a Canadian passport, I’d forfeited any claims to protection from my father’s birth country, and I still think that that that time (the late 1980s) anybody working in a U.S. consulate would have said the same. I was, and am, more than fine with that. The American government just needs to accept that those of us who ask nothing from them will never be willing to accept that we owe them tribute for services we haven’t asked for, don’t use, and don’t want.
A couple of days ago I watched a documentary on Monaco and its Royal Family and wondered how Prince Albert and his sisters are handling FATCA and if THEY are in compliance. As far as I know they are dual citizens because their mother was American. I dreamed about Air Force One, of course with Obama in it, sitting at Nice airport disembarking hordes of IRS agents crossing the Monaco border and swarming all over town with their yellow pads at the ready in order to note properties and bank accounts held by the Garibaldis. Wouldn’t that be a great movie script?
Gee, I’ve been sheltered in a secure location in Canada for 45 years and I’m still waiting for the Marines to land on my doorstep and offer me some of that legendary ‘merican evacuation assistance. My garage is now completely full of junk and I could really use a hand getting it out to the curb before pickup day next Tuesday.
@ Eric
I don’t know about his sisters but I just found out that Prince Albert is not a dual citizen.

Can you imagine the exit tax Prince Albert would have to pay today? What are the capital gains on an entire principality?
@EmBee. thanks for updating me on this. Barbara, the Royal Family owns billions and is involved in many businesses operating in the Principality such as gambling etc. How much would he have to pay? It would certainly decrease Obama’s deficit by more than a couple of bucks.
The King of Thailand was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts. I wonder if he’s filed his FBARs.
I think these royals of other nations get the “go free” card because of service to other nations. Could be equated to an expatriating act such as a government job.
But yeah- what galls me most of all is that under the guise of “taxes” our capital is being confiscated. Taxes are paid for services. I haven’t gotten any US services for over 50 years and I wont in the future either.
@Barbara: He’s almost certainly not a US citizen. He made an official royal visit to the US in 1960, ten years after his coronation:

There’s no way Thailand’s foreign ministry would have let that visit go forward without confirming that the king enjoyed immunity from US civil & criminal proceedings. But the US State Department has always taken the position that enjoying immunity (diplomatic, head of state, etc.) in the US is incompatible with being a US citizen or even a non-citizen immigrant. So the only way for his visit to happen was if the State Department found he was never a US citizen or that he’d lost citizenship by becoming head of a foreign state (an expatriating act for which intent to relinquish is always presumed, even up to the present day).
Since all that happened well before the Bank Secrecy Act was passed, let alone HIPAA & HEART; he has no requirement to talk to State or the IRS or FinCEN. Also, he did not live in the US long enough to qualify to pass down US citizenship to children born before the date of his expatriating act; in any case all of his kids were born after his coronation.
Here you see US traitors from the IRS teaching Islamic banks how to locate US citizens.

I would like to welcome all the representatives of the GCC Central Banks and Ministries of Finance, as well as tax experts and the audience for their participation in the Symposium. I would like to extend my thanks as well to the representatives of Deloitte and Touche, Ernst & Young, KPMG, and PriceWaterhouse Coopers, for their participation, support and sponsorship of our initiative.”
Mark, this info would-be be good ammo for Republicans Overseas.
Just grabbed this from the American Expatriates Facebook group…
Here is the list of Islamic banks in Yemen, who have been forced by FATCA to locate all US citizens living there. At these locations, the names, addresses, phone numbers, bank account values, and Social Security (local Yemen and US) numbers are stored.
As the government is now being overthrown and the financial infrastructure goes over to ISIS, the Americans in Yemen will be treated accordingly.
